Whenever someone mentions China's history, one thinks about, samurais, dragons, magical powers, etc... and everybody forgets about Chinas involvment on events like the Great Depression of the USA, World War 2 and other important events in the world's history. In this blog we will describe Chinas involvment during events like the unfortunate Word War 2.
The first event we want to talk about is the Great Depression. As you probably know this event occured in USA, and unfortunatly for us, China did not have a major role during this event but their are a couple of details that should be mentioned. It is said that the Great Depression did not affect China (too much) since during the 1930s China was not a big part of the global economy. China still didnt have as much industries and technology as countries like USA, Britain, and other powerful countries. China also had alot of social problems, China was passing through the Civil War during that period of time and also through the Japanese war (Second Sino-Japanese War), because of this China did not care much about their economy, and because of that they had no major role and major connection in the global economy. The Great Depression did affect in a few things, during that time China's economy depended alot on silk, the depression made the demand for silk to be reduced causing economic trouble mainly on Southwest China. Another thing that also affected China was the America Purchase Silver Act of 1934 signed by Roosvelt, this had a severe blow to the Chinese economy, because it made China’s silver-based currency appreciate again, and rendered Chinese exports still less attractive.
Alot is said about totalitarian regimes like, Stalinism, Nazism, Fascism. China did not follow one of this totalitarian regimes. Like mentioned before, during 1930s and late 1920s China was involved in their civil war, which was a war between the Chiniese Nation Party, Republic of China, and Communist Party of China (which had some connection with stalin). In the late 1940s the communist party gained control, it is said that Stalin had something to do with it, some say he sended soldiers, some say he threatened to destroy the other parties. The communist leade Mao, joined Stalin in order for Stalin to give him some advices. Mao planned to do a five years plan to in China, but since Mao was a true nationalist and loved China, he saw that the people did not like this plan and its implications so he did not do it. Mao also did not fully trust Stalin, even thought Stalin helped him rise to power. Mao thought that Stalin could backstabb him at any time.
